Romantic Nodak Winter Wedding

Hannah Reichert (Bride) MINOT, ND
Seeing as my fiance was deploying oversees in January, we wanted to squeeze our wedding in before he left, so we had just under four months to plan. I knew an abundance of flowers and garland would be the perfect solution to spice up our small-town wedding venue during the bleak North Dakota winter. After considering some local florist quotes compared to online retailers, I realized we could spend our same budget arranging the flowers ourselves and have 4x the amount of flowers. I imagined a winter wedding (but NOT Christmas-themed), so I focused on including seasonal flowers to max out our budget. I also compared online retailers, and found had the most variety of flowers with ... the best prices and customer service (not to mention so many inspirational photos from other DIY brides--major confidence booster!). Having no floral training whatsoever, I researched how to prep and arrange the flowers courtesy of Flower Design Institute, Team Flower, and Mayesh designer videos on Youtube. I also decided to take on creating a flower arch for the ceremony door entrance (the flower arch structure was purchased from I made all arrangements, including the 2-door flower arch, fireplace arrangement, 1 bridal bouquet, cake topper, cake "moat" or surround, 5 container arrangements, and 100+ flower picks to set in our garland on the tables, all 2 days before the wedding. Note to DIY brides/bridal party: I recommend getting your manicure after your flowers are completed, and wear long sleeved shirts to prevent foliage cutting your arms. We only had a handful of flowers that didn't make the winter delivery, which I was surprised and pleased with considering we had ordered +2,000 flowers (I had also ordered extras just in case). We transported all flowers to the venue the day before the wedding, making sure to freshly water all arrangements in floral foam. The arch was the only project that I noticed some wilting, but it looked more vintage so I didn't mind. We did buy the fresh garland pre-made from an online retailer, although offers garland as well! Our guests particularly enjoyed that the whole venue smelled like a garden which was an added bonus. We had no major glitches in our DIY flower execution. As long as you have the time, Youtube knowledge, manpower, and the right tools and facilities dedicated to prepping the flowers, I believe any bride can DIY their wedding flowers and save major dollars. Flowers Used for Hannah Reichert's Arrangements

I loved the color variation of its center to the petals! The mauve pink with burgundy center was perfect for our color scheme. I used all of it to surround our wedding cake. Its stems were more delicate when I cut it down, but overall it was a very hardy bloom.

I ordered these as extras, but we didn’t have more than a handful of damaged flowers, so we had plenty of extra roses to go around. I loved their mauve-y tone and they gave an overall vintage vibe to our arrangements. Highly recommend!

I used this variety to add grey to our flowers, and it fit the bill perfectly. I'm not a fan of traditional rose shapes, so I ruffled these up using my thumbs and spread them apart more to resemble a garden rose. The color was spectacular.

Used this for greenery in our flower arch. Loved its grey-ish green vibe.

One of our bridal colors was navy, and I loved this flower's color and texture. Hardy stems that were easy to work with and so many blooms per stem!

Although these had a funky smell at first (mainly because I don’t like to eat kale), I very much loved how full and large they were! Several guests commented on how beautiful they fit in the arrangements and added interest. They had color depth in their centers and were easy to work with their chunky stems.

I was obsessed with this! It was fairly delicate, so this was the only flower I waited to add-in to our arrangements after transportation to the venue. Glad I ordered extra! It made our fireplace arrangement look breathtaking.

My absolute favorite garden rose! Included this in my bridal bouquet, the fireplace arrangement, and the extras went into the flower arch.

I ordered these for the deep burgundy color and was not disappointed! Not one flower was damaged. I loved their full shape and strong stems!

I particularly loved the Queen Ann's lace from this combo pack! Highly recommend combo packs as you get a lot for your money, and so much variety.

Stock White Flower ( 20 Bunches or 200 Stems )

Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Other

This bloomed beautifully over the course of a day, and its fragrance was my favorite of all the flowers! We used the majority of it to fill our flower arch, but I liked it so much I used it everywhere I could squeeze it in in other arrangements.

We used this to give texture and movement to our floral arch and greenery in our other arrangements.

Perfect millennial pink I desired! These added variation of size to our arrangements and looked like mini garden roses. They bloomed after about a day and quicker than the other spray roses I ordered.

Burgundy Ranunculus Flowers for Weddings
Used for: Bridal Bouquet, Other

The color of these ranunculus was exactly the deep wine color I was inspired by! In general, ranunculus stems are softer and more delicate with smaller blooms, so I made sure to place this in my bouquet and on the tables so everyone could appreciate its detail and beauty up close. I anticipated having to wire the stems to keep it upright, but didn't have to.

Bloomed beautifully over the course of two days! Loved the color even though it was more cream than I was going for.

Excellent filler and texture for all my smaller arrangements and bridal bouquet. Especially loved the scabiosa pods and silver brunia!

Burgundy Blush Astrantia Flowers
Used for: Centerpieces , Bridal Bouquet

So impressed with the color mix of this bunch. I found it most useful in smaller arrangements where you could appreciate its texture and finer details. It did have a delicate stem, something to be aware of if you're using it in floral foam.

Used this to add wintry vibes as greenery in each arrangement. I loved it most in our fireplace arrangement, because it hung down beautifully with our hanging amaranthus.

This flower had my favorite shade of mauve pink! So hardy and affordable. I used the majority of these to fill our flower arch, but added them everywhere I could.
